American Idol Judges - Should They Call the Winner Before the Show Ends?

The American Idol Judges clearly called a winner last night in David Archuleta. Do you think they should be able to do that, or should the last night of competition be "Judges Shut the F*ck Up Night"? Did a lot of people think that David Archuleta was already the winner and didn't bother to vote for him?

Throughout the season the judges have made comments like "I'm looking at the next American Idol" or "I think you can win this whole competition". My thought on this is that judges should judge and leave the predicting to the psychics and the odd makers.

I was disturbed by all the judge noise being made about Archuleta -- especially by Randy. Indeed Mr. Jackson, take to STFUs and don't call me in the morning.

I think it was unfortunate that the producers decided to theme the show as a boxing match. And whoever came up with the idea that the two Davids should first appear in robes deserves a punch in the face.

It was a weird night. Cook was clearly the more poised both as a performer and as a contestant, and I liked that he stayed true to his view of the show as a "progression."

On the other hand, little Archuleta did what he's done best all season (even calling back "Imagine" for an encore) and looked like he was either gonna cry or faint or both after each number... nothing idol-like about him. If nothing else he's got a remarkable voice and his anxiety reminded me that he's a 17 year old kid.

Whether the judges open support helped or not, I'll be very surprised if little David doesn't win tonight. And I'll bet you it's Cook -- a la Chris Daughtry -- who goes on to have the more successful career.

And one last question: What number do I have to call to vote that AI shitcan the BS that is the songwriting competition? If what the Davids sang for their second numbers was the best, imagine how bad the stuff was that the contest drew. Yech.

Hi Will, I agree with you that things will go well for David Cook, probably better if he doesn't win the title.

I agree about David Archuleta - I love the kid, but he doesn't really seem ready for this kind of pressure. His Dad is ready and is having a much better time with it all.

They really didn't make it clear that the contestants were singing songs from that stupid songwriting contest - last year they had Blake and Jordin sing the same schmaltzy winning song. Even the judges were confused over that issue last night.

Have I mentioned recently that I'm SO HAPPY its finishing tonight? As usual I'm sick of the show and yet, still compelled to watch.
